Board of Directors Committees
NAA Committees provide leadership and strategic guidance to the NAA. Participation in committees is limited to members of NAA’s board of directors or external partners who serve at the invitation of the board.
Operational
Finance
This committee provides financial oversight for NAA including budgeting, financial planning, financial reporting and creation and monitoring of internal controls and accounting policies.Board Development
The board development committee identifies, recruits, screens and interviews candidates for the board of directors. This committee also oversees the development and implementation of all policies and procedures related to board management, governance and development.Fundraising Task Force
This task force is charged with engaging their peers on the board to develop and implement fundraising strategies, identify potential donors and sources of funding and ensure the organization’s ongoing financial stability.
Executive Committee
The executive committee has special responsibilities and authorities above all committees and can act on behalf of the full board. Its main purpose is to facilitate decision making between board meetings or in urgent and crisis circumstances, including financial and budgetary decisions. The committee is composed of all of the Officers of the Board of Directors, and may also include up to three members of the Board at-large. Programmatic
Membership & Community Engagement
The committee supports NAA’s mission by growing and engaging a diverse membership of land stewardship practitioners. Working with staff, the committee promotes membership growth, fosters engagement, and supports access and opportunity. Subcommittees may be formed to focus on key groups such as students and early career professionals.
Natural Areas Journal Task Force
This task force is charged with addressing needs related to Natural Areas Journal development, which includes increasing submissions, expanding opportunities to share research and methodologies, and assisting staff with understanding publishing trends and best practices. Advisory Committees
Science Advisory Committee
This Committee advises the NAA’s Board of Directors and staff on emerging issues regarding the protection, restoration, study, and stewardship of natural areas. Specifically, the SAC will produce written reports advising the NAA Board of Directors and staff on defined areas of interest to the Board. These written reports developed by the Committee will be used to inform the content and direction of the NAA’s programming and outreach.State Natural Areas Program Committee
This committee is for state practitioners who work in the management of state agency owned natural areas and share the unique challenges of state natural areas and heritage programs. The committee is tasked with planning topical roundtables pertinent to state agency practitioners.Awards Committee
The Awards Committee manages the Natural Areas Association’s annual awards process, which honors leadership and excellence in the natural areas profession. The committee reviews nominations, selects recipients, and supports award presentation efforts. Working with staff, the committee finalizes forms, timelines, and communications related to the George B. Fell Lifetime Achievement Award, Carl N. Becker Stewardship Award, and Rising Leader Award.
